building confidence through play
The 2nd South Petherton Beaver Colony welcomes young people aged 6 to 8. It's a fun place for them to learn and play. This is the first Section in the Scout family in South Petherton. It helps children get ready for more Scouting adventures in the future.
We try to do as many different activities as we can. These include games and baking. We also enjoy Lego, arts and crafts and exploring nature. There are many more fun activities too! We do activities indoors during our regular meetings. Sometimes we also go on trips during the day or have sleepovers. The programme is available to parents, including times and locations, by logging into the Online Scout Manager account. The Calendar Feed can also be subscribed to via your calendar software (e.g. iCal or Google Calendar) to ensure an up to date view.
We make new friends and explore the outdoors. We also create new things together.
Leaders
Mouse and Dragonfly lead the Beaver Colony.
Other adult volunteers are on hand to supervise activities, share their skills and keep everyone safe.
We currently need two more helpers.
Lodges
A Lodge is a smaller group of Beavers within their Colony, headed up by a young person who takes on a peer leadership role called Lodge Leader.
Being a Lodge Leader is about being a superhero for a little while – doing things like welcoming new people to the Colony, being extra helpful during a camp, or taking charge of a game or activity. Everyone takes it in turns to accept the challenge.
Beavers usually stick together in their Lodges on trips away, or during certain activities.
Moving up to Cubs
When Beavers are close to turning 8 years old, they start doing activities to get ready for joining the Cubs Section. This can include becoming a Lodge Leader. This helps them move easily into the next part of the Scouting programme.
They will have already met the Cub Leaders. who will sometimes help with their activities. Cubs, and their leaders, also join in with Beavers sometimes on Group events.
