Rifle shooting
Rifle shooting encourages concentration and fitness whilst contributing to the development of self-discipline, respect for authority and an awareness of risk.
2nd South Petherton Scout Group have the equipment and skills to set up a rifle range. We can share this with members of Scouts, of all ages. We are also able to also able to run sessions for other groups close by.
Cost is £3.50 per head per session plus travel expenses for our leaders.

Equipment
The air rifles are 0.177 calibre with maximum muzzle energy 12ft/lb. These are suitable for use by Cubs and Scouts. They fire diabolo-shaped flat head pellets of soft deformable metal.
Targets used are paper with circular aiming marks and concentric scoring rings. It is not permitted to use any target that looks like a human or an animal, skeletal or otherwise, as part of a Scouting activity.
Ranges are set up following guidance and consist of a ballistic curtain of approved material with a minimum of 6 yards shooting distance.
Leader qualifications
There are 2 leaders who hold Scout approved BASC qualifications, within 2nd South Petherton Scout Group. They hold both Airgun Coach (Instructor) and Safety Officer accreditation.
Shooting law
A consent declaration form signed by a parent must be supplied by any participant under the age of 18. Adults wishing to take part will be asked to sign that they are not restricted under Section 21 of the Firearms Act 1968. Signatures must be in ink and not electronic. A new declaration/parental consent form is required for each shooting session. These are kept in a confidential file for one year before being securely destroyed.
